Are You Going?
Hello All,
Once again ladies and Gentlemen, if you have not answered this question please do so. If you have already answered this question please respond to someone else’s post.
Thank you,
How does the great commission of Matthew 28:18-20 speak to Isaiah 6:8 -9?
How have you responded to God’s call to God’s commission to go?
The following question can (its optional) be answered in addition to the above questions.
The call of God is to faithfulness to God, His Word, and His call. How does verse 9 warn Isaiah about the response he would receive from those he was called to minister too? How does it warn us?
The verses Isaiah 6:8-9 God is asking a question. He is saying who shall I send, and asking who will go for us? Isaiah willingly volunteered to accept the assignment that the Lord revealed to him. This willingness was because God granted Isaiah forgiveness.
The verses Matthew 28:18-20 speaks to Isaiah 6:8-9 because both involves doing Kingdom work. The Lord was asking a question in Isaiah 6:8-9 “who will go?” The great commission is telling us that Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and on earth “Go therefore”. Jesus’ spirit dwells in the inside of us. The Great Commission is telling us to “Go therefore”. God forgave Isaiah and Jesus forgave us and granted us eternal life.
I responded by being honest. It is all about GOD and not me. It is not about my title it is about doing what the great commission is telling us to do win souls. I truly humble myself making sure that the God in me draws people to the point they ask questions. It is a blessing to share the gospel to the saved and to the lost. This gives me an open door to work Jesus’ great commission. I especially, do double duty at home because I do not want my husband and the rest of my family members to be lost. I live my life as a vessel that glorifies God. Not pushing Jesus on anyone just living my life as a Christian. Do not get me wrong it can be a task and I do make mistakes. I just get back up and remember it is all about saving a soul and God gets the Glory. The saving of a soul is so important in the Kingdom. Everywhere I go I let my light shine at HU, Sentara, stores, etc. At a workshop a past employee was speaking and she mentioned that she enjoyed how I kept peace in the Museum and made sure special occasions were kept regularly. I truly thanked God because she has been gone about 5 years and she did not forget those seeds that were planted.
Isaiah 6:9 warning to me empowers Isaiah to keep it real by looking at how he used to be a sinful man. Isaiah recognized his sinfulness and wicked ways and he repented. I am sure it took him time to come to that point to repent. He knew how he had a hardened heart. He was able to respond clearly and understood it was not going to happen overnight. Isaiah was warned that the people were disobedient, they had hard hearts, and their lips were unclean. Also, Isaiah was warned that they would not receive the word of God.
It warn us not to sit in our mess knowing we need to get ourselves together. I personally, know when I am not walking according to the word and into my feelings. It is an ugly sight. I have to step up more with getting involved with the things of God saying to myself stay focused “it is not about me”. I repeat this over and over until my spirit gets right.
During Isaiahs commission he heard the Lord saying who shall I send? And who will go for us? Isaiah said here am I send me. The lord said go and tell my people. Isiah was a willing vessel.
I have responded to the Lord that I would be a willing vessel to go a make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. in the community, work or where ever I go.
The great commission of Matthew 28:18-20 speaks to Isaiah’s commission (Isaiah 6:8-9) because I believe Jesus is for us what the coal was for Isaiah. Jesus having now all authority in heaven and earth shed his blood for us redeeming us from guilt and sin. Giving us now the ability to become a disciple and in return go and make disciples of others.
I have responded to God’s call for the Great Commission by being intentional in my own deliverance and the shaping of my heart and character to be under will of God, to wit, reaching those who are lost and tell them the good news of Christ. By demonstrating love and being humble, transparent, teachable and willing to sit with those who don’t look like me and tell them about the love and saving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
For the second question I believe because of people’s own wickedness and their hardened hearts they will turn a deaf ear to our preaching, and willfully shut their eyes against all the discoveries that can receive from God.
Isaiah’s commission was a personal one where he reflected that his lips were touched with a coal given to him from God to remove his guilt and sin.
The great commission of Matthew 28:18-20 speaks to Isaiah’s commission (Isaiah 6:8-9), I believe Jesus is for us what the coal was for Isaiah. Jesus having now all authority in heaven and earth shed his blood for us and was resurrected removing our guilt and sin. Giving us now the ability to become a disciple and in return go and make disciples of all the nations.
I have responded to God’s call for the Great Commission by being intentional in my own deliverance and shaping of my character to whit, reaching those who are lost and tell them the good news of Christ. Being transparent, teachable and willing to sit with those who don’t look like me and tell them about the saving grace and love of God.
Because of people’s own wickedness and their hardened hearts they will turn a deaf ear to our preaching, and willfully shut their eyes against all the discoveries that can receive from God.
Min. Bobbitt, I like the part about being transparent, teachable, and willing because many dont realize that as an intricate part of ministry and the great commission. For me I missed this portion and it cost me a lot and wasted a lot of time. However, I have to also say that the correction I receive at LFCC was not given to me when first entering ministry as a minister of the gospel. I wanted to know what to do and not to do but all I knew was the basics; look good, preach good, and have a good whoop. No one seemed to care about my salvation as it related to clean hands and a pure heart. So one seemed to recognize the importance of telling me that clean hands and a pure heart for the commission was even vital to me walking out the call and allowing the coal to touch my lips and Jesus be what he needed to be in my heart.
I hope that makes sense…
The text in Matthew 28 gives a commission to go and make disciples while Isaiah 6 is asked who will go and Isaiah volunteers. Matthew speaks to Isaiah because though we are commissioned to “Go” we also have the choice to not go. As disciples the expectation is that we would do what the Lord is asking us to do yet we should respond with “Here I am. Send me.” This response demonstrates a willingness to serve the Lord as he has requested and an eagerness to do so.
In response to God’s call and God’s commission to go has been a growing process. I wasn’t so sure I was being called at one point while also rejecting the call all at once. I struggled with the why me syndrome and why I couldn’t live like my peers; but, all while still moving towards what I believed God was calling me to. Now I have made up in my mind that I am going. I sometimes have a bad habit of questioning the call when things though look how I believe they should or I am unable hear the “higher” that the Lord is calling me to.
Verse 9 of Isaiah 6 warns Isaiah that the the people would hear and not understand or receptive, seeing but never fully aware of their sins. This warns us because even as leaders in this day and time, we must understand that God will give us a word for the people but it won’t always be understood or seen as right. The people will listen but will not hear it enough to do something different because of hard hearts and blinded eyes.
Krystal, I cried all the time in church and I knew God was preparing me but I allowed the people to hinder me. I was not one to be in a click and I was considered the outsider. I knew the text Matthew 28 was for believers and Isaiah 6 kept me crying. However, I continued going through this process while I was growing in God. When I got to the point of knowing, that I know that I know Jesus was calling me I felt better and willing to be on the battle field for the Lord. I did not let the faces of the people stop me from obeying God. I feel verse 9 of Isaiah 6 we do receive warnings at LFCC. I can speak only for me I to the best of my ability obey. It is sad to see some who hear and not understand or receive especially after the preached word. We look with our own eyes seeing them still in their sins but we must continue being obedient to God. Regardless, saints still reject due to rebellion, but we as ministers as you said must continue preaching the word of God.
In both texts, God is telling us to go and witness to the people. Isaiah is a willingness to go out and witness, but Matthew follow to give us further confidence to not be fearful while doing it. Fear is a habit that we all can obtain at least once in our walk. but we can’t let fear stop us from spreading the word.
Fear can look different depending on the situation we are in when attempting to evangelize to certain people. It could be rules at work that don’t allow you to talk about religion while in the building. It could the fear of how others look at you when you go against their beliefs. Fear has many different looks but does the same thing in every situation. It shuts our attempts down to spread his word. But we must remember that God did not give us the spirit of fear, and also that he has called us has equipped us.
Verse 9 also tells us that everyone that we minister too is not going to get it. All of the natural things that are used to learn and understand will be shut off. It may seem like they are are not getting it but God will ultimately have the victory. In Matthew it also gives us some help on how to talk to those in which we witness to. When Jesus told Mary to tell his followers he was going to Galilee, it gave a prime chance to speak about all the miracles performed in the area. Many were done there from feeding the 5k, walking on water, and healing many. Just as those who followed him could remember all his great works on the way back, is the same way we can remember all that God has done for us while we witness.
In the text of Isaiah 6:8, Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord ask “Whom shall I send? who will go for us? Isaiah then said “Here am I, send me. In verse 9, The Lord said go tell the people , also a warning of the receptivity of the word of God is given .
I have responded to the great commission of God by being the willing vessel He needs me to be by going forth proclaiming the word of God. I find that it is sometimes difficult to reach out to people. As I become all the more versed on the word, as well as continually praying ; one for the understanding of God’s word and two, for the courage to do so. Recognizing the opportunities has been somewhat of a struggle. However, it does not negate that the Lord said “Go”.
So I shall.
