What We Bring

Happy Monday,

We read that an essential component of our relationship with God is what we bring. A seeking and an open heart that is receptive to the things of God is the goal coupled with open ears and a transformed heart.  with these components in mind, what are some things that hinder your openness and receptivity to the things of God? And, how and in what areas are you closed to and reject the things of God?

what portion of the reading stood out to you the most, and why?

Who We are and How We are Enabled: Spiritual Identity

I pray that you all are continuing to enjoy the reading.

Our identity is inextricably attached to our family of origin. Through those familial connections we are formed socially, mentally, physically and to a large degree spiritually. In like manner, when we become members of the family of God/body of Christ, our spiritual identity is further formed by the spiritual community we are a part of.
Considering our LFCC spiritual community, how intentionally active are you at allowing the Holy Spirit to use you in forming other members of our leadership team? On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate our leadership at allowing the Holy Spirit to use us to form one another (please explain your rating)? Finally, what portion stood out to you the most?

The Spirit as the Agent of Formation

Hello leaders,

Thank you all for your thoughtful posts last week, I enjoyed reading each of them.

This week we will discuss the section of our handout entitled “What We Have: The Spirit as the Agent of Formation.”

Block states”…such formation takes place in the natural flow of life.” He goes on to say Formation is simply drawing on the resources that Spirit provides….”

He goes on to note that some of these resources include spiritual disciplines, Scripture, the gospel, community and healthy relationships.

Considering the resources Block mentions, which one (s) has the Spirit provided within the natural flow of your life that you have neglected or not drawn from in full measure? (please include how the resources is present in the natural flow of your life).

What portion of our reading stood out to you the most?

New Testament Community and Spiritual Formation

Hello Leaders,

Welcome back to our training platform. I pray we are all edified as we explore diverse training to the end that we “Become vessels fit for the Kingdom.” Below is this weeks question and a reminder of our instructions.

In our handout, Darrell Block points out 4 key components to spiritual formation:
1. An agent–the Holy Spirit
2. A dynamic–growth in the context of community identification
3. A goal–holiness in the context of mission
4. An open and responsive heart that pursues formation as a key purpose in life.

He goes on to define what spiritual formation in connection with discipleship. How does the definition Block presents differ from what you thought spiritual formation was? and which of the his four key components stands out to you the most?

Reminder of Instructions

From November through December we will be going through the handout New Testament Community and Spiritual Formation, by Darrell L. Block. we will utilize a blog on the church’s website. The blog can be found under the Devotional tab at the top of the home page. The blog requires a password, the password is “wetrain”.

On Mondays I will post a discussion starter on the blog in relation to the packet that I will provide. You will have until Sunday to post an initial comment on the blog post. I am encouraging you to be thoughtful, open, and honest about what your thoughts concerning the week’s material, and interact with each other regarding the material. For example, on November 11th I will post a blog opening up discussion on the material you received. Then, by Sunday, 11/15, you should comment, at least once, on the post with your thoughts regarding the material. Additionally, please feel free to respond to someone else’s comment.

If you have any questions regarding how to use the blog please reach out to MIT Allie by phone at (757)871-0850 or by email at wbfmanage@gmail.com. She will be able to answer any questions you have about the technology side of the training.

Are You Going?

Hello All,

Once again ladies and Gentlemen, if you have not answered this question please do so.  If you have already answered this question please respond to someone else’s post.
Thank you,

How does the great commission of Matthew 28:18-20 speak to Isaiah 6:8 -9?

How have you responded to God’s call to God’s commission to go?

The following question can (its optional) be answered in addition to the above questions.

The call of God is to faithfulness to God, His Word, and His call. How does verse 9 warn Isaiah about the response he would receive from those he was called to minister too? How does it warn us?

Stepping Out

Hello Leaders,

Hopefully we are all caught up. And by now you are coming to understand that God only wants your heart and availability to Him. He can and will shape you for the assignment, but He needs you to step out and allow Him access to fashion your life for use in His external plan.

Question for the week: How have you stepped out and allowed God to use you?  Please be specific.

My Biggest Take Away (So Far)

Hello All,

This week’s post was actually from last week I neglected to put it in the right folder.  So we got an unexpected free week.  Hope you used it wisely.  Looking forward to reading your responses this week.

I hope this reading week was helpful to you all and althea it allowed you to ‘catch up.” Based on your “slips” many of us need (d) that time. That being said, please be encouraged keep up as best as you can. God is a God of timing and when we walk in obedience we get God’s best and His fullest.

This week we will only be receiving the Scriptures so that we can once again have an opportunity to catch up. Please make good use of this opportunity.

The question this week is:

Considering all that we have have learned and discussed during our training, what has had the biggest impact on how you are fulfilling the call of God on your life? How has it impacted this fulfillment?  Please be specific.
